Sharon Stone, the renowned actress known for her roles in “Basic Instinct,” “Casino,” and “Total Recall,” has opened up about losing custody of her son shortly after the release of “Basic Instinct” in 1992.
During an interview with The Mail on Sunday’s You magazine, Stone revealed that she lost custody of her son, Roan, after her ex-husband, Phil Bronstein, filed for full custody. The reason, she says, was due to the graphic sex scene in “Basic Instinct.”
According to Stone, Bronstein was concerned that their son would be exposed to the scene and the media attention that followed the film’s release. “I lost custody of my child, and for a long time, I could not get a job because everyone thought I was a psycho,” she said.
Stone also shared how the experience affected her and her career. “I had to remortgage my house. I lost everything. I lost custody of my child. I lost my career. I was like, ‘I can’t buy my mom a house. I can’t help my grandma.’ I was f****d. I was completely broke.”
Despite the difficulties, Stone remained determined to regain custody of her son and continue her acting career. After a lengthy legal battle, she regained joint custody of Roan in 2008.
Stone’s experience highlights the stigma and double standards that can come with being a female actor in Hollywood. While male actors can often take on controversial roles without facing the same scrutiny, female actors are often subjected to unfair judgment and criticism.
Despite the setbacks she faced, Stone’s career has continued to thrive, with roles in films like “The Laundromat” and “Ratched.” She also uses her platform to advocate for issues like women’s health and AIDS awareness.
Overall, Stone’s story serves as a reminder of the challenges that women in the entertainment industry face and the resilience and determination required to overcome them.
